Over the years, a number of Town & Gown Scholars have shared how a particular individual, such as a teacher or grand-parent, has played a vital role in giving them the confidence to believe that they have what it takes to succeed at a university like UC San Diego. In Jason’s case, it was a his emeritus mentor who gave him him that guidance and encouragement, and it was this same individual who told him to apply for a Town & Gown Scholarship.

inspired by his mentor, he participates in the Chancellor’s Scholars Program, where he not only “volunteers as a peer mentor to three fellow first generation and low-income students through the Chancellor’s Scholars Alliance,” but also serves as Peer Mentor co-chair. Being a Chancellor’s Scholar has meant a great deal to Jason. He “helped design and manage a year-long community building competition for more than forty peer mentor and mentee teams to foster engagement and strengthen the scholarship program’s supportive culture.” In addition, Jason works as a student assistant at the university’s Retirement Resource Center, where he provides support to members of both the Retirement and Emeriti Associations.

Jason is pursuing a minor in accounting and participates in the United Accounting Society at UC San Diego. He hopes to obtain his Masters in Professional Accountancy at the Rady School of Management, and aspires to have a career in accounting based on “integrity and consistency.” He is enrolled in Earl Warren College.
