Profile:
Izzie has attended many different schools and was exposed to a variety of curricula over the years in South Korea, Hong Kong, Malaysia, and the U.S. Northern Mariana Islands. She ultimately chose a school that offered Cambridge International Education, and has since tutored students who are enrolled in that program.
She was successfully treated for a growth disorder and believes that her “life was changed because of a small injection pen.” After her treatment she shifted her focus from “arts and social sciences to biological sciences.” Her hard work paid off with a scholarship to attend a university in Kuala Lumper for her senior year of high school. She actively participated in the school’s many volunteer clubs, including the Lenses
for Love project, which provides eye care for underprivileged children. Opportunities like this “made the 15-month program the most memorable and rewarding experience of my life.”
Here at UC San Diego Izzie is Marketing Director of the Revelle College Student Initiated Programs. She also finds time to teach English, biology and chemistry to ESL students as a private tutor.
Izzie plans to become a dentist. Her vision is to “make a.difference through affordable healthcare, especially one so overlooked and costly like dentistry.” She is inspired by how medical research can continue to change lives, as it did hers.
